Program Details

ABOUT DEPARTMENT

Program offered : Diploma in Civil Engineering (3 years full time course)
Total Intake : 60

Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at G.P. Kheda. The department offers Diploma in Civil Engineering with 60 intake capacity. The department has highly qualified faculty members. The primary focus of our curriculum is to impart technical know-how to students, promote their problem solving skills and innovation of new technologies. Department arrange Industrial Visits for all semester. Also arrange Expert Lectures,  Skill development Programes under Skill India Project of Government of India. Various Programmes under RUSA ( Rashtriya Uchatar Shaxarta Abhiyan). Department also involves in various socio cultural prograames announced by government.

CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

Vision:

To be a department that produces socially aware Civil Engineering professionals with leadership qualities, sound technical knowledge, having ethical values with ability to pursue professional assignments in civil engineering field.

Mission:

M1: To provide modern infrastructuralfacilities for quality education to the students.

M2: To inculcate leadership qualities, professional ethics and soft skills among the students.

M3: To strengthen our relationship with civil engineering professionals.

M4: To encourage students to pursue higher education and take various career enhancing

        courses to improve technical knowledge.

M5: To mentor students for using green building concepts in civil engineering field.

Labs

The Civil Engineering department has a computer lab having 30 computers. The area of lab is about 150 m2 as per AICTE requirements. The lab is utilized for the subjects of I semester “Basics of Information and Communication Technology (4300010)” and IV semester “Computer Aided Drafting (4330605)”.  The lab is also utilized by the students to prepare their projects, seminar, and other co-curricular micro-project reports.

In Civil Engineering, knowledge about domestic water supply & sanitation system (external & internal) and house drainage & disposal facilities is imparted by offering them “Water Supply and Sanitary Engineering” (3350603) subject. Students need to know about various water and wastewater quality parameters in this subject. For that, they need to perform some experiments like pH value, Turbidity, BOD and COD, etc. In Government Polytechnic, Kheda, the Civil engineering department has WSSE lab, in which tests for COD, BOD, turbidity meter, pH value, TDS, Temperature, and Dissolved oxygen are performed during the term. The lab equipment's are also used for final-year projects.

List of equipment:

  1. BOD incubator
  2. Digital Turbidity meter
  3. COD digestor
  4. Water analysis kit
  5. Digital TDS meter

Surveying is the basic and one of the most studied topics in civil engineering. The survey is used to prepare maps that help locate hills, valleys, rivers, boundaries, roads, canals, and railways. It also helps in setting up plans for roads, railways, and other important civil engineering structures. In addition to the instruments used for simple surveying, advanced surveying techniques such as Tachometric survey, setting out of a curve, Total Station survey, use of G.P.S., D.G.P.S., U.A.V., etc. are essential as the speed and accuracy are in high demand in recent time. Also, these modern equipments use software which in turn encourages paperless work and the use of green building materials. Department has the facility to perform these practicals.

List of the tests as per the new syllabus of GTU

  1. Flakiness index test and Elongation index test on the aggregate
  2.  Los Angeles abrasion test on the aggregate
  3. Aggregate crushing test
  4. Aggregate Impact test
  5. California Bearing Ratio Test
  6. Softening Point test on Bitumen
  7. Penetration test on Bitumen
  8. Flash and Fire Point test on Bitumen
  9. Ductility test on Bitumen.

In any Civil Engineering Project, material cost plays prime role in the total project cost. Therefore, selection of appropriate material is very much important. To suggest/ select appropriate material, first and for most necessary is to know materials’ properties and characteristics
